As a volunteer working with other young people at the Tajik Family Planning Association, and on the basis of research I’ve carried out on contraceptive access for young people in my country, it’s clear to me that although we do have access to contraception, information is really lacking. Coming from a Central Asian country, there are several factors that interfere with our ability to develop the knowledge we need, and a major one is cultural barriers. Although people are not always willing to talk about sexual and reproductive health and rights in Tajikistan, we young volunteers got very inspired by the “I Decide” campaign and took part in it by carrying out information sessions and trainings with other young people on methods of contraception, and raising the visibility of our messages and activities on social media.
