IPPF European Network, Lund University and the WHO Regional Office for Europe, have formed a partnership in order to promote the sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) of youth across Europe.
The SAFE project stands for Sexual Awareness in Europe: a European partnership to promote the sexual and reproductive health and rights of youth and sets out to provide an overall picture of the patterns and trends across the region in order to develop new and innovative ways to reach young people with SRHR information and service, and to inform, support and advance policy development.
This project stems from the Resolutions on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights in Europe, by MEP Anne Van Lancker (Belgium), which was adopted by the European Parliament in July 2002 and emphasises the need for Member States and the then accession countries to improve the exchange of information and best practices on the issues of unwanted pregnancies and abortion, adolescent sexual and reproductive health and rights and sexuality education, and on the development of sexual and reproductive health policies in general.
